Working together for the greater good
MissionWorks has a rich history of resourcing the mission world through its family of ministries.
DELTA Ministries was the short-term mission vehicle for the Conservative Baptist Association of Oregon. The first mission team took place in 1979 and over the next 16 years, DELTA sent out hundreds of teams. Eventually, they came under the sponsorship of WorldVenture, the national missions organization associated with conservative Baptist churches.
In 1996, DELTA became an independent, interdenominational ministry mobilizing over 100 teams and 1000 team members per year at its peak. At the same time, DELTA’s CEO, Brian Heerwagen, joined the national steering committee for the writing of The Seven Standards and the establishment of The Standards of Excellence in Short-Term Mission.
In October 2003, the US Standards of Excellence in Short-Term Mission was formally launched. In time, the “US” was removed, and the organization became known as Standards of Excellence in Short-Term Mission or “SOE” for short.
From the beginning, SOE was the authoritative voice for all things short-term mission and was effective at exposing weakness by presenting excellence. In 2017, DELTA and SOE merged; SOE defined excellence and DELTA had the staff and resources to help their members become excellent.
Throughout those years, the staff and leadership of DELTA and SOE worked hand-in-hand with other organizations who were also called to promoting excellence in missions. This natural progression has now collectively created a family of ministries that provides the comprehensive programs and services needed by mission-focused people and organizations.
MissionConnexion was established in 2001 by missions pastor Bill MacLeod in Portland, OR, and has become a premier mission mobilizing conference, reaching over 5,000 individuals and hundreds of churches and organizations through their annual events. MissionConnexion has become the primary outreach ministry of MissionWorks.
MissionGuide, formerly ShortTermMissions.com, was launched by Mission Data International in December 2000 as a quality collaborative resource for people to discover and engage with short-term mission trips and other Christ-centered service opportunities. MissionGuide continues to be an effective way for mission organizations to promote their mission opportunities and enlist participants. In 2020, it joined SOE and is now one of the MissionWorks website tools helping people enlist in mission trips that fit their gifts and calling.
MissionLinked offers a comprehensive suite of tools that allows the mission or project organizer, the participant, sender, and host to all stay informed. It also allows them to interact and engage with their supporters. MissionLinked is the ultimate missions fundraising tool in the MissionWorks suite of ministries.
MissionArmor provides travel medical insurance that protects and covers individuals and mission teams in the event of an illness or injury. The insurance is issued through MissionSafe and is beneficial when traveling outside of your country of residence. It provides key medical benefits in case of an emergency, ensuring that MissionWorks’ mission participants stay healthy and safe while out of the country.
MissionExcellence helps leaders plan mission trips that honor God, their hosts, and those they are serving by effectively implementing best practices called the Seven Standards of Excellence in Short-Term Missions.
MissionNext, the latest in our family of ministries, was founded in 1998 as Finishers Project. Their website connects God’s people with opportunities to serve the Lord among the nations through their electronic matching algorithm. Individuals can choose to serve at an international school or with a mission agency, based on their interests and skills. The Mission App, which was acquired by MissionNext in 2023, offers a pre-vetting service for applicants before connecting them to appropriate partners.
So, whether you are looking to expand your ministry or fine tune your organization’s mission, or perhaps you are looking for an opportunity to serve, you’ve come to the right place! Our goal at MissionWorks is to see every believer join what God is doing around the world by connecting them with our partners and equipping them for the task through our coaching and resources.
